The app

What is Bokumi?

A cozy manga and comics reader for iPhone and iPad: a shelf for your books, a calm series page, five reading modes with real page-curl turns, 42 themes, widgets and iCloud sync. It is a reader, like a lamp and a comfortable chair, or a web browser for your books. It hosts nothing, and it comes with no manga, comics or sources of its own.

Does Bokumi come with any manga?

No. Bokumi contains no manga, comics, catalogs or content of any kind, and it does not host, sell or distribute any. Your shelf starts empty and fills with what you bring.

Which devices and iOS versions are supported?

iPhone and iPad on iOS 18 or later, and Macs with Apple silicon as an iPad app. Liquid Glass appears on iOS 26; earlier versions use the system's materials.

When can I get Bokumi?

Soon. Bokumi is coming to the App Store for iPhone, iPad and Mac, and to Android. Neither is available yet, and there are no downloads anywhere else in the meantime.

Is there an Android version?

It's coming soon, but it isn't available yet, and there is no official Android download right now.

Which languages does it speak?

Thirteen: English, Español, Português (Brasil), Français, Deutsch, Русский, Türkçe, Bahasa Indonesia, Tiếng Việt, 简体中文, 繁體中文, 日本語 and 한국어. Change it in More → General → App language; the app switches at once.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no Bokumi account to make, and nothing to sign in to. Sync uses the Apple Account already on your device.

Your books

How do I get my books into Bokumi?

Open Browse → Local files and tap Import, or choose Import local files from the library's ⋯ menu. Pick files or a whole folder from the Files app. You can also share a file to Bokumi from Files, Mail or AirDrop, or drag it in on iPad. The bring your own books guide walks through it.

Which file types work?

CBZ, ZIP, picture-based EPUB, and folders of images (JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, BMP or TIFF). PDF, CBR and CB7 are not supported yet; most comic tools can save a copy as CBZ.

How do I keep a series with many volumes together?

Put the volumes or chapters in one folder named after the series and import the folder. Each CBZ or subfolder inside becomes a chapter, in natural order, and an image called cover becomes the cover. See how folders become series.

Can I open books I bought in another store's app?

Only if the store lets you download them without copy protection (DRM). Protected books can't be opened in Bokumi, and our terms ask you not to remove the protection. Read those in the app you bought them in.

Can I bring my library from another reader app?

Yes. Make a backup in the other app, then open More → Backup & restore → Restore from backup in Bokumi and pick it. Your series, progress, categories, history and trackers come along. Restoring only adds, never deletes.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Imported files are copied into Bokumi on that device and stay there. They are not synced, not put in backups, and never sent to us. Keep your originals somewhere safe.

Reading

What am I allowed to read with Bokumi?

What you own, what you are licensed to read, what is in the public domain, and what its rights holder has made free to read. You must have the right to every page you open. The terms and content policy say it in full.

Is Bokumi responsible for what people read with it?

No. Bokumi is a reader, like a web browser or a file viewer. It hosts nothing, ships no sources and links to none, and it collects no data, so we never see what anyone opens. What you read, where it comes from and whether you have the right to read it are your choice and your responsibility. The terms explain it in full.

Does Bokumi condone piracy?

No, and our terms forbid it. Bokumi must not be used to read, copy or share pirated or unlicensed material. Authors only get to keep drawing when readers support them, so buy it, borrow it from a library, or read what creators share for free.

How do the reading modes work?

Right to left for manga, left to right for comics, vertical, webtoon and continuous. Bokumi remembers your choice for each series. See the reader guide.

What is the page curl?

In the paged modes a page lifts and curls as it turns, like paper. On iPad and in landscape you see an open book with two pages. If you prefer a plain slide, change the page transition in the reader's settings.

Plus & purchases

Is Bokumi free?

Reading is free: your shelf, history, updates, every reading mode, importing your own files, light and dark mode, 13 languages and app lock. Bokumi Plus adds every theme and icon, widgets, Reading Insights, advanced reader settings, downloads, iCloud sync, tracking and automatic backups.

How much is Plus?

$0.99 a month, $10 a year, or $20 once for Lifetime, which is at its beta price. These are US prices; other regions see local prices in the App Store.

Does Plus unlock any manga?

No. Plus unlocks features of the app, never content. Bokumi doesn't sell or include any manga or comics.

Can I get a refund?

All sales are final, and we don't offer refunds ourselves. Apple handles every purchase, so we never see your payment and can't issue or reverse one. If you think a charge was a mistake, you can ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, and Apple decides under its own policies. See Plus, purchases and refunds in the terms.

How do I cancel a subscription?

Open Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Bokumi Plus and choose Cancel, at least 24 hours before the period ends. Plus stays on until the end of the period you paid for.

Will I lose my data if I stop paying?

No. Nothing is deleted. Plus-only choices are kept but stop being applied, and come back if you buy again. Backups, restore and deleting your data always work without Plus.

I bought Plus on another device. How do I get it here?

More → Bokumi Plus → Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple Account.

Sync, backups & privacy

How does sync work?

Through your own private iCloud, with no Bokumi account and no server of ours. It is part of Plus. See iCloud sync.

Does Bokumi collect my data?

No. There are no ads, no analytics and no account. Your shelf stays on your device unless you turn on iCloud sync, and then it goes to your iCloud, not to us. Read the privacy policy.

How do I back up my library?

Create a backup by hand any time under More → Backup & restore; Plus can also do it on a schedule. See backups.

How do I delete my data?

Reset settings or delete all data in More → Advanced, or delete the app. If you used sync, remove Bokumi's data in Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage.

When something is wrong

A file won't import.

Check that it is a CBZ, ZIP, picture-based EPUB or a folder of images, and that it isn't copy protected. A RAR renamed to CBZ won't open. The import troubleshooting table lists each message.

Sync is not updating.

Check that every device uses the same Apple Account, that iCloud is on for Bokumi, and that you have iCloud storage left. Then tap Sync now on the More tab. More in the sync guide.

My Plus features are locked.

Tap Restore Purchases under More → Bokumi Plus. If that doesn't help, contact support and tell us roughly when you bought it. Please don't send payment details.

I found a bug or want a feature.

Write to [email protected]. It helps to say which iPhone or iPad you use, your iOS version and the Bokumi version from More → About.
